To program the new toyota key fob hold the unlock and lock button on the key fob for two seconds and then release. Then say 1 second after the car stops locking unlocking due to step above press down both buttons of the old fob simultaneously then say after 1 second press the lock button of the new fob. Within 3 seconds the door locks should lock and then unlock once indicating successful programming. This verifies that the new fob is working.

If the backup remote is able to unlock the doors then you know that it is a problem with the key fob and not with your vehicle s locking system.
